ALAFIN OF OYO , OBA LAMIDI ADEYEMI, HAS GO TO MEET HIS ANCESTOR (oba ti waja)

Top Yoruba monarch, the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, has go to meet his ancestors. He was 83. His rule lasted for 52 years, the longest in the history of the Alaafin throne.

Alaafin Adeyemi, the third from the Alowolodu Ruling House, died in the late hours of Friday at the Afe Babalola University Teaching Hospital, Ado Ekiti, the capital of Ekiti State in South-West Nigeria.

The remains of the top Yoruba traditional ruler were brought to Oyo town, 62 kilometres from Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, in the early hours of Saturday and traditional rites began, palace sources told this newspaper.

He was 83 years old and the longest reigning Alaafin ever, having ruled for 52 years.

The Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, is expected to make an official announcement upon receiving the report of the monarch’s passing from the Bashorun of Oyo, Yusuf Akinade, the head of the ‘Oyo Mesi’, who will now lead Oyo town before a new Alaafin is installed.

The monarch had been sick and a plan had been made to fly him abroad before he passed on late Friday night.

A source familiar with the medical travel plan said his tickets and those of a few wives were already procured.

His death came months after the two other senior Oyo State monarchs – the Olubadan of Ibadan, Saliu Adetunji, and the Soun of Ogbomoso, Jimoh Oyewumi – died. All happened in less than five months.

Alaafin Adeyemi was born Lamidi Olayiwola Atanda Adeyemi on October 15, 1938 into the Alowolodu Royal House of the famous Oyo town .

He was crowned on November 18, 1970, succeeding Oba Gbadegesin Ladigbolu I. He was known popularly as Iku Baba Yeye.

While he reigned, he was the permanent chairperson of the Oyo State Council of Obas and Chiefs.

With the demise of Alaafin Adeyemi, it is now the turn of the Agunloye Ruling House to produce the next Oyo monarch. Mr Adeyemi’s predecessor, Alaafin Ladigbolu, was from the Agunloye House.

Nollywood actress, Kemi Afolabi, says her doctor told her that she has five more years to spend on earth.

In an interview with media personality, Chude Jideonwo, the actress revealed that she had been diagnosed with lupus.

Lupus is a disease that occurs when the body’s immune system attacks tissues and organs.

“I have lupus. It’s not curable. You just have to take medications for the rest of your life.”

The actress added that she spent over N1 million on treatment yet she did not get the desired result.

Quoting her doctor, she said, “Make sure you are with your loved ones. At least, you still have up to five years.”

Earlier in January, Afolabi took her fans by surprise when she said she had written her will and booked a space at the cemetery.

In an Instagram post, she wrote, “I wrote my will and booked a space with ebony vault this year 2021 but God showed me how faithful he is despite my unfaithfulness. Who am I that God is so mindful of my existence? Me, ordinary sand? “Finally, I was diagnosed with a condition that has no cure but can be managed by medications and takes me in and out of the hospital at will (SLE). Fluid blocked my lungs, affected my heart from functioning well which was the reason for my breathlessness and that is caused by the condition diagnosed! Surgery was the only option to drain out the fluid fast.”

Directions:::
Step 1: The first step is to peel the egusi by removing the white Egusi seeds from the brown shell. Place the peeled Egusi in a dry mill (The smaller grinder that comes with the Cup blender) and grind till smooth. It might start to cake up but never mind, that's not a problem.

Step 2: Wash the pumpkin leaves (Ugu) with salt water to kill the germs and rinse with clean water. Chop the leaves and set aside

Step 3: For the Stock, you could use any type of meat or fish you choose to. For this particular recipe, i used a mixture of beef, sharki, pomo and Stock fish. Rinse everything and place in an empty pot. Add just enough water to cover the content of the pot. Cook on medium heat for about 15 minutes. Add the salt to taste then cook for another 5 minutes. Turn off the burner and set aside.

Step 4: In an empty pot, pour in the palm oil and ground Egusi. On medium heat, stir fry for about 3 minutes till it starts to dry up but don't let it burn. Pour in the stock, add the ground crayfish, extra salt if needed, crushed seasoning cubes, stir, then leave it too cook till the egusi absorbs most of the stock in the pot, swells and cakes up.

Step 5: Add the chopped ugu leaves, stir and cover the pot. Leave to simmer for 5-7 minutes before turning off the burner.

Eniola Badmus is unbothered about comments made by bullies who are fat-shaming her body size.

The actress makes a note on Instagram on Wednesday, December 19, 2018, in a bid to remind critics of her lack of concern regarding hurtful opinion.

She has grown a thick skin and can accommodate intimidating thoughts.

"When will the bullies realize that calling me fat does not affect my feelings," Badmus asks in a post on IG.

In September 2018, she points out in an interview with Vanguard News that there is more regard for plus-sized women in other parts of the world.

The actress considers the problem of getting fat-shamed a Nigerian problem.

"Why is this being big an issue to people?

"It is only in Nigeria that big sizes are not appreciated, this is because most fat women are hiding under their shadows, they fail to realized the beauty in them, they lay low so as not to be mocked.

"I may or may not want to lose weight but everyone wants to be healthy. Must everyone be slim? It has never affected my career in any way.

"This is what has been working for me. It is not easy to be big and famous. I’m proud of myself and how far I  have come"
